The name "Ethno" is derived from the Greek word "ethnos," meaning "nation, tribe, or race." This choice reflects our commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of diverse cultures and communities. In an increasingly interconnected world, it is essential for China to learn from and engage with global perspectives. Understanding other cultures has never been more important, as it promotes empathy, collaboration, and innovation. By embracing this ethos, the Ethno Philanthropy Fund aims to bridge cultural divides and facilitate meaningful exchanges that enhance mutual understanding and cooperation across nations.

Ethno Philanthropy Fund aims to globalize Chinese philanthropy by cultivating cross-border collaborations and empowering China’s growing philanthropic sector to address international challenges. Through strategic partnerships, we promote cooperation, innovation, and sustainable development, leveraging philanthropy to contribute to global peace and prosperity.
YUAN Jiakai founded the Ethno Philanthropy Fund in November 2023, aiming to connect Chinese philanthropists with global partners. Prior to this, he was the China Chief Representative for United Way Worldwide, where he established UWW’s China office and secured the first overseas NGO license in Shanghai. Jiakai has held leadership roles at prominent nonprofits, including the Jet Li One Foundation, Youcheng Foundation, Rare Conservation, and WWF China. Earlier in his career, he worked in Credit Suisse’s Leveraged Finance Group in New York.
In 2019, Jiakai was named a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and received the “Future Leader of the Year” award from the American Chamber of Commerce Shanghai. Since 2020, he has been a career mentor, and capstone project industry mentor at Tsinghua University’s Schwarzman College.
